Georg L. Bucher

Brewery owner and master brewer | GER |

Since 2010 Georg Bucher has been managing Günzburger Radbrauerei, a brewery with roots reaching as far back as 1600. His great great great grandfather bought the family business in 1810. About 100 years later, in 1906 the brewery moved from the market square to new buildings on the edge of the town centre.

Georg’s grandfather, was one of the first brewers in the region to bank on wheat beer. He was so successful that more new buildings were required in the 1980s and 1990s. In spite of state-of-the-art technology, Georg Bucher’s wheat beer is produced in the elaborate process of bottle conditioning.

The craft of brewing and malting was taught to Bucher at the Distelhäuser Brauerei; he then studied at Weihenstephan. He holds a brewer’s diploma, completed training in beverage business administration and is a beer sommelier. In 2009 he was on the European Beer Star jury for the first time. “Beer connects people. This is why I enjoy being part of the Beer Star so much. You meet like-minded people in a casual atmosphere, and you can gain new experiences and expand your network.”

Bucher’s Radbrauerei has won two Beer Stars to date, one for strong wheat beer in 2010, and one for non-alcoholic wheat beer in 2017.
