Kilian Kittl in Interview

Had you already heard of the European Beer Star?

Yes, but I hadn’t thought about its meaning for the industry.

Where does it stand now, in your opinion?

You can tell from the conversations in the industry: hugely significant nationally and internationally.

What makes for quality?

The high standard we set for ourselves. In terms of jurors, hygiene measures, communication, categories and the Olympic pricing.

Is there anything you can do better?

You can always improve. For example, in digitalization, or in the professionalization of shipping.

Will you stick to “Olympic Pricing”? Or will you distribute more gold?

We have three winners in each category, no more, no less. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the beers in fourth, fifth, sixth place are bad. At the top, it’s often just a matter of nuances.

2020. What was the biggest challenge?

We have to be very flexible, especially with regard to hygiene aspects. But at the moment, everyone understands. You can work well with everybody. That’s a great sign.

You had to invite fewer jurors in 2020.

About 50% – with almost the same number of registrations. A hard job for everyone.

Where do you want to go with the European Beer Star?

We want to continue to grow, in terms of volume and quality. And open up new countries.

New countries?

There are markets with many beers where we are not yet represented.

For example?

India. A huge market with a big craft beer scene. There are also gripping stories to tell from Africa.

What measures are planned?

I would like to strengthen cooperations with other important competitions, show “on-site presence”.

The Global Family!

It is important to me that we also work together internationally. For example, together with the Beviale Family. For example, with Craft Beer China, Craft Drinks India, Craft Beer Italy, BevialeMoscow, BevialeMéxico.

The crisis shows how important it is to take care of each other. I hope it will stay that way “afterwards.”
